What To Expect From Periodontal Surgery

If periodontal surgery was something considered dreadful in the past, then things has changed. Thanks to the newer and sophisticated medications available now that ensures a smooth and painless procedure. During the surgery proper, a patient is sedated for surgical safety and a good result. Sedation can be performed by doctors who are licensed to do so. It is also considered as the most significant addition to modern periodontics, in easing patient discomfort during the surgery. After the operation, a patient is often given some prescriptions to soothe any pain left from the periodontal surgery and to speed up the healing process. In 10-14 days, an appointment back to the doctor is a must to remove the dressing and cleaning of the operated area and post operative care. Polish appointments are often scheduled every 3-4 weeks to make sure optimal plaque control.
