What Substances To Avoid After Periodontal Surgery
The intake of hot foods should be avoided for the first three hours after the periodontal surgery in order to permit the periodontal pack used to protect the gums from irritation to harden. After that, a dental patient can eat anything that they can manage as long as the pack will not break off. Dentist suggest patients to have semisolid foods or finely minced foods such as eggs, gelatin, cereals milk, soup, fish or hamburger. Citrus fruits or fruit juices and highly spiced foods and alcoholic beverages should be avoided after periodontal surgery because they will cause pain. The intake of food supplements or vitamins are not necessary if not prescribed by a dentist or periodontist.
